Within a timeframe of 3.5 years, Michael was able to build a team from zero to 200+ employees.
During this time, he was able to grow the revenue that was delivered out of the plant from zero to well over $100M annually. When building and growing teams it is crucial for him to find and retain talent with integrity and the desire to grow. The aim is to grow the employees alongside the business.

Manufacturing

Accepted Answer

Creating and improving processes that meet or exceed the customer’s needs is Michael’s passion. He’s a certified Lean Manufacturing expert and has hands on experience with Six Sigma. Reducing waste and inventory while improving throughput time are critical principles. While applying these, it is always important for Michael to involve his operators to include their ideas and design the process in a way that is ergonomical and efficient for the operators as well.

Custom machine building

Before graduating from University, Michael spent about 5 years of his career building custom machines. He was responsible to manufacture the individual parts and sub-assemblies (CNC milling, drilling, CNC turning, grinding, cutting, welding, etc.) as well as the mechanical assembly of the machine.

Engineering

Accepted Answer

Holding a Mechanical Engineering Degree from the renowned University of Esslingen (Germany), Michael is very versed in the disciplines of Engineering. Structural Engineering, Thermodynamics or Material Science are all disciplines he’s familiar with. He enjoys 3D printing as a hobby and has hands on experience with 2D and 3D CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, PTC Creo and Fusion 360).

Construction

Accepted Answer

After Michael moved to the US in 2019, he oversaw two major construction projects. Initially, he led the renovation of an existing 50,000SF facility valued at over $1.5M to bring it to modern manufacturing standards.

In 2022, he led the design, planning and construction of a 200,000SF state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, including 15,000SF modern office space.
 
For both projects, Michael was the main point of contact for the General Contractor and the Architect. He oversaw the design, contract execution (AIA), ensured schedule and budget compliance and was the ‘boots on the ground’ for his employer to ensure quality standards were met and progress billing was accurate.

Program and Project Management

Over the last 5 years, Michael and his teams have realized 30+ industrialization projects, totaling over $100M invested capital. More than 95% of these projects have been delivered in time and in budget.

He is a big proponent of a standardized project management process with a focus on open, transparent and timely communication. MS-Project and SmartSheets are some of the tools he introduced to his teams to support project execution.

Warehousing and Distribution

Accepted Answer

One of Michael’s responsibilities in the past was to oversee a built-to-stock warehouse, where product was pre-built to ensure a delivery time of less than 24h.

He was able to establish a process that could meet or exceed customer expectations but was still cost efficient (low inventory).
 
Michael is familiar with ERP systems, efficient inventory management and pick-pack operations.

Strategy definition and execution

Accepted Answer

One of Michael’s core competencies is to define a long-term strategy and ensure the dynamic execution of said strategy.
 
Rather than developing the strategy individually, he strongly prefers to define the approach together with his leadership team. Giving every individual leader the freedom to execute their contribution to the strategy independently is an important part of Michael’s approach.
